Ryan and Sara; e-session

Ryan and Sara are so great together. They compliment each other in every sense of the word. This couple is super fun too- I'm a firm believer in fun! It makes their relationship all the more sweeter.

Since they are so fun, it was inevitable that our photo session be filled with all sorts of fun moments..........oh and a heat wave. Talk about HOT! Sonic drinks were a must immediately following the session.

Ryan happens to be a photographer himself, so I had to step up my game in a MAJA way.......maja! It can be a bit intimidating shooting for a fellow photographer, but they were great! And it was neat having some creative folks to bounce ideas off of.

We did their photo shoot in the gem-filled Downtown Brenham. There are so many great places to photograph. I have loved it for quite a while from the outskirts, but have never really fully been submerged in its surroundings. I've fallen in love with a new location. And we didn't even cover a 1/4 of it. There was also a random pasture that we found that ended up being beyond gorgeous for photos. The sun was absolutely perfect too.

Clark/Foster Wedding; part ONE

This post is bittersweet.

On one hand, it is my last official wedding for the year- unless someone super special comes along or someone super local (as in wedding will be in Brenham:).

As mentioned in a previous post below, I've decided to take some time away from the wedding scene and put more of my energy and talents into life here on the farm.

Boy did I go out with a BANG! I was blessed to photograph a killer wedding at Westin La Cantera in San Antonio. This wedding proved once again why I LOVE outside weddings. This resort is extremely gorgeous. The bride and groom were all smiles. I've never met a sweeter couple. This combination set the tone for a wonderful and fun-filled day.

I have seriously never had this many pre-ceremony favorites. But, I thought that since this was my last, I'd post my favorites from each category.

Baby McKlayne

I had the blessing of photographing a precious baby girl a few days ago. This little girl is extra precious to me, because I feel as though I've known her mommy and daddy for as long as I can remember.

I have photographed them as an engaged couple, married folks, new parents, a family (see below- Apel fam), and now they've added a second.

Meet McKlayne- don't you just LOVE this name???? She is an absolute doll in every sense of the word. There is just something about babies with dark brown and black hair- beautiful!!!!

I visited her mommy for almost 2 hours and didn't hear this little girl cry one single time. McKlayne is such a good and sweet baby.

Infant photography is always fun for me. You just show up and go with it. You must be flexible and ready to get to know the mommy really well. Kirby and I are already dear friends, so that was an added bonus to visit with her.

She even let me put her precious girl on top of a dresser. We did, however, choose the lower of the two that were options. I kept imagining the session had I not known her. It would be a bit awkward to place a complete stranger's baby on top of a piece of furniture and move them all over the place. But, thankfully I love babies and are pretty comfortable with them and Kirby is the most laid back mommy I know.

I'm a loser in a major way!

It has been forever since I've updated this blog. I've been busy with farm stuff- website, logo, chores, etc.

So, if you are still out there, thanks for stopping by.

I had a precious friend come and visit me over the weekend. We had a blast! I snapped some of her perfect little girl, Sadie.

Sadie is a sweetie pie! She definitely makes me look good in these photos. There were so many good ones of her it was hard to choose.

These were taken out on our farm in front of the brooder house. I am in love with the de-saturated look in these photos. Can you tell? I normally don't de-sat every single photo, but it just worked with the look we were trying to achieve. And then I loved the vivid color punch in the color ones.

The Vann's

I was blessed to photograph this couple last weekend.

This couple is near and dear to my heart because I photographed their wedding and now had the honor of photographing their pregnant belly! Baby Eden will be here soon and we are so excited.

There is something amazing about seeing two people become one on the day of their wedding. But, it even more spectacular to see these their marriage grow, strengthen, and blossom into a growing family.

Nick and Carissa are super sweet, sincere, and so fun! They are so comfortable to be around. I walked away from this session with a huge smile on my face. These two seem to do that to me.

Here are some of my favorites from their session. Seriously, Carissa has to be one of the most gorgeous pregnant women around. She is beautiful with or without a baby in her belly, but this girl was radiantly glowing! I was blown away.

Eden Elaine will be here soon.........as in just a few days! I'm so thrilled they are having a girl and I'm in love with the name they chose for her. I know she will be beautiful and absolutely precious.

Apel Fam

This family is so special to me. I feel like I've practically been there for every stage in their lives (almost:).

I first knew Charlie through church. He was a single lad at the time.......a very popular single lad.

And then along came precious Kirby. She made her way into our hearts and has stayed in mine since I first met her.

I was blessed beyond words to be able to take this couple's engagement pictures. They were my first ever engagement session and took the risk of letting me experiment (thanks guys!) . They made 'the pose' famous. The pose that I shot of them on the railroad tracks with the rr centered and them off to the side with Kirby looking lovingly down at Charlie, has been requested by many couples. And what I really can't believe is that I shot all their e-session with film- 3 whole rolls to be exact! Praise you Jesus for digital.

And then I was super stoke to be able to take Kirby's bridal portraits. She was a stunning bride as you can imagine.

I was at their beautiful wedding when they said 'I do' and here they are.......parents! They are amazing parents.

See, I told you I've been there for a lot of stuff with this couple.

Asher is their adorable 1 year old. He was all boy at the park picking up every leaf, rock, and stick insight. We caught a lot of him in action.

This goes along with my philosophy of taking pictures of kiddos- especially 1 year olds! Find something that they enjoy and let them roam. It is so difficult to get a picture of a new walker when you restrict them to a studio. I say,"Let them play!"

Carter

This little guy is precious! He belongs to some very dear friends of ours.

Photographing him was a sweet moment for me because the first 'real' photo session that I did as a professional was Carter's brother and sister. They have since added to their family and allowed me to capture their newest addition.

I had the blessing of photographing him on Sunday along with another sweet family that we are friends with (stay tuned for that one also).

Babies are always extremely interesting to photograph because you don't quite know what to expect. You just have to be prepared for anything and willing to hang out and wait for the right moment.

We used tons of great window light. This is always best in order to capture a more natural look. If I can avoid using my flash, I will at all cost. All that you need is a really great lens and lots of good light and you are good to go. Remember: a camera is only as good as the lens that is on it!

He was a great little model. We managed to get some really great shots of him. His mommy and I were both sweating by the end of the session.

My sister and bro-in-law came to Brenham to visit us. They only live 30 minutes away, but it was fun that they came to hang out on the farm with us for a few days.

Of course I couldn't resist taking pictures of my adorable niece, Ava. This girl is precious. I just look at her and start smiling. Ava has the sweetest personality and is the most laid back baby in the ENTIRE world.

Laney Rae and Ava are in the same preschool class at church on Saturdays. When I dropped off Laney Rae at her class, Ava was sitting in the Bumbo chair as happy as can be. And........when we came back to pick them up after church was over, she was still sitting the Bumbo chair. The teachers in there said that she didn't even make a peep the entire time. Typical.

Here are some recent pictures of her! She will be 6 months in a few days.

Bacak Family and other news

I'm sorry for the lack of posts here lately. Yep, like since before Christmas! Shame on me.

I did a lot of shooting right before Christmas and throughout Christmas. So stay tuned for more action!

The photo opps that I had during the holidays were all special to me mainly because they were close friends and family.

The Bacaks are sweet friends of ours. We have been blessed by their friendship in so many ways.

Their children are a big ball of fun. Really. I have never experienced such excitement and adrenaline all in one session! Each one is unique and fun in their own little special ways. They are all so different......yet hilarious. They do have that common denominator. The Bacak kiddos are total hams in front of the camera!

In other photography related news, I'm in the process of evaluating where the Lord wants to take me in 2008. I currently have two weddings booked this 2008 (which I'm super excited about because one is in Brenham and the other is at an amazing resort in San Antonio). I quit booking weddings this year and cancelled a few others because I'm not quite sure where the Lord is leading me.

I want to be in His total and perfect will and right now in this season of my life, I don't know if it is a full fledge photography business. I have been overwhelmed and blessed at the response of brides and grooms that have fallen in love with my photos. I have fallen in love with them as well and their friendships. In the process, I have walked away with some pretty incredible people in my life that I will forever call friends.

Don't misunderstand me here. I know that the Lord will use this gift He has given me. I will never be able to walk away from photography completely. Besides, I have some pretty great models that live with me and hundreds of animals dying to get their picture taken as well. Add amazing friends and family to the mix, and I will always have something to shoot!

But, I believe He is steering me in the direction of assisting my husband more out here on the farm by creating some marketing stuff, getting the word out about our products, creating amazing brochures...t-shirts...business cards, help get a website up and going, and capture pictures of things going on out on the farm. As you can see, that is plenty of stuff right there for me to do. I want to use my gifts to be an asset to Jason.

Who knows what the Lord has in store for me. But, I do know that it should always align with His plan and perfect will. And being a wife, I know that always includes being a helpmate to my husband and putting my family first. Everything else is secondary.

I'm not sad in the least because I have much comfort in knowing that this decision will be blessed.

This blog will continue to exist because my passion and love for photography will always exist. Stay tuned for more photos to come. I still have plenty from Christmas stuff to post!

For the photographers out there that read this blog, listen up!

There is an upcoming workshop in New Orleans would be amazing to attend! It offers some of the MOST incredible photographers all in ONE workshop. And New Orleans is not that far from us. It is better than driving to SoCal.

This is very advanced notice, but my hunch is that it is going to fill up so fast. Some of my all-time favorite photographers are going to be there.

This is a little too far for me to plan my life around- Oct. 08. I might even have a baby on the way by then. Who knows! But, I wanted to put this info out there because I feel that there may be someone itching to go.

Luke & Melissa: e-session

Meet Luke and Melissa!

These two are so fun. They have such a relaxed and easy-going spirit. I literally felt as if I have known these two for years and we just met!

The photo shoot was in Independence at the Old Baylor Campus and the railroad tracks nearby. For some reason, I thought it would suit these two. When Luke showed up in a cowboy hat, I KNEW it was perfect.

We almost had to cancel due to a storm approaching, but it took a turn to east and gave us the most gorgeous sky and clouds.....a photographer's dream. However, it did not bring the wind with it. It left that in Independence with us.

Overall, I was super excited at how their pictures turned out. Here are some of my favorites from the day. Thanks for such a fun time!

Ross King!

We were super blessed to attend a Ross King concert this past Friday night.

I love the songs that he writes. They are so real and in your face. I need that. They speak to me. The Lord has truly gifted him musically and poetically.

It was really awesome because I was outside walking around taking some pictures and there were people walking by on the streets of Downtown Bryan wondering what was going on at The Palace. The conversations went something like this.

"Who is Ross King?"

"I don't know, but he sounds pretty cool."

"You want to go check it out?"

"Sure. I'm game for whateva!"

And in they went. Praise the Lord!

The Palace was a groovy place for a concert. The kiddos had fun running around together and we had fun worshiping the Lord outside.

The funniest part HAD to be the train. If you know anything about Downtown Bryan, you know that there is a train that runs right in the middle of it. A very loud train. Ross was in the middle of his 5th or 6th song and this blaring horn overpowered everything. The band totally stopped playing. How could they even continue? It was rediculously (is that a word?) loud.

I didn't have my 'bread & butta' zoom lens. It is too big for me to tote around with a gigantic 7 month old on my hip. So, I didn't get in as close as I would have liked to. I did get some wide angle stuff. This also means I didn't get any of my groovy Hope Group leader on the drums.....the rock star, Craig Weaver. He is sick on the drums. For real! I just learned that in teeny bopper terms, 'sick' is a great thing. It is the equivalent to us saying 'awesome' in the 90s.

The W Family

A few weeks ago, I had the blessing of photographing this family.

They are precious friends of mine. Our plans were to head out to the local rose gardens, but after this bunch saw the hay bales that Jason baled the week before and the gorgeous views, they were thrilled to pose for a few pictures in our pasture. The evening was absolutely stunning with an amazing sunset!

Pretty much everyone that is a really close friend of mine is either pregnant or has recently had a baby- my sister included, who is also a dear friend of mine:).

I'm really not exaggerating either, which I have the tendency to do sometimes. There are babies every where.

Over the past few weeks I've had the joy of photographing some of my favorite little girls.

I love infant photography. I love it mostly because it is a challenge to me and you never know what to expect. There is never a dull moment and lots of laughs along the way. And with every baby comes a schedule. The right time is crucial in getting great pictures. If they aren't happy and well fed, you might as well forget it.

These lovely little ladies were a photographer's dream! Of course they are absolutely gorgeous and they were all very happy during their photo shoots.

My beautiful niece, Ava! She reminds me so much of my KK, except her strikingly gorgeous black hair. KK didn't have hair until she was 2.

Precious Sadie! This child is going to give Laney Rae a run for her money. She is such a big girl.

Adorable Autumn. Her daddy is Native American and a tribe member made her this special blanket and moccasin's. How cool is that? We had to include them in the pictures.

Kent & Courtney; Part 2

Here are some more of this sweet couple! These were shot at George Bush Library. GBL is another favorite of mine to shoot at. They keep the grounds perfectly manicured and all of the extras are great too! While we were there, we ran into 3 other photographers. It was fun!

I'm so excited about this couple's wedding. It will be held at La Cantera Resort in San Antonio. There are so many great places to take pictures at here. I can't wait!

Kent & Courtney; e-session

Kent & Courtney are getting married in July! I had the priviledge of photographing them for their engagement session. We immediately hit it off and hit the streets of downtown Bryan in hopes to beat the storm that was fast approaching.

We started downtown and the plan was to head to George Bush after we were done there. However, the rain came down. So we finished up there and went to George Bush another day.

These two were so much fun! They had lots of neat ideas as well which gets me excited that someone else is as excited about pictures as I am.

I have a funny story too- a Lynsey moment (as my hubby would say). I was trucking along taking pictures. I like to refer to my clients by their names instead of 'Hey, you'. It just sounds better for some reason. So I kept asking 'Kurt' to do this or 'Kurt' to move here or 'Kurt' to chill. Halfway through, sweet Courtney says during one of those moments,"You mean, Kent."

I broke out laughing and started apologizing profusely. They were laughing with me too!

I have a really bad tendency to mesh couple's names together. I do this even with some of my closest friends, Kirby and Charlie. I will call one of them Chirby, Karlie, Charby or whatever! I'm so bad about it. Courtney goes by 'Court' a lot of times and once again I was caught in the name meshing game with, Kent and Court.

I do tons of shoots in the downtown area. It is what people like and I happen to love it myself. But, I don't want for everything I shoot downtown to look exactly the same. However, at the same time I realize that people select a photographer based upon the work that they have seen them do.

Here is some insight to that from the amazingly talented and famous Jessica Claire. She shares the importance of being consistent yet creative at the same time. Here are her words:

This is something that I struggle with like everyone else. I think that one thing that helps is to get to know your couple or subject a bit before the shoot, or even when you first arrive so you can find things about them that you can incorporate into the shoot. I love to shoot engagement sessions somewhere significant to a particular couple. My best work though, is when I get to shoot people doing something or being somewhere that they really enjoy. For example, I had a couple the other day say to me, "please don't make us shoot our engagement session at the beach, I just don't like the beach!" I'm so glad that they said something about that because instead of putting them somewhere uncomfortable, we were able to choose a location they really loved.

I think doing things different every time is really difficult, and so I don't try to go too far outside the box on every shoot. My clients hire me not only for my photos but because they have an idea of what they will get with me, and consistency is a good thing. So on every shoot, I'll shoot about 75% of what I know will work well, and I'll try about 25% of the time to do something different or new. It doesn't always work, but sometimes I get something completely awesome! That way I can shoot for the client and still satisfy my own creativity and curiosity without the pressure of feeling like if I don't do the new thing well, the shoot is ruined.

So that is that! She really says it best!

Ryan + Cate, Part 2

Hooorrraaay for really smart people who can change an internet connection from being tortoise-like to lightening fast! Even though he took one look at my computer, looked at me and said "I hate Macs" with a straight serious face, I still think he is terrific. He really said that! I forgive him and his little fear of the unknown Mac world.

I had the huge blessing of photographing a dear friend's wedding. Ryan and Cate were married on Sept. 2, 2007 in Austin, TX.

It was a beautiful testimony to the Lord's unfailing love seeing these two become one in front of their precious friends and family. Ryan and Cate have to be one of the sweetest couples that I have ever witnessed. Their love is tender, sweet, deep, genuine, and respectful.

Above everything else, they love Jesus and He is the heartbeat of this marriage.

The location that they chose was gorgeous. And they, too, are the definition of gorgeous! Really!!!!

We were really bummed that we didn't get to do any outside pictures (except the ones under the tarp, tricky, tricky:) because of the rain. It rained the whole time before the wedding while we were shooting all of the before the ceremony stuff.

We tried to fit as much inside as we could. The inside was not laid out for inside pictures especially those with bigger groups, but we made the best of it. And the bride and groom were in good spirits the whole time which blessed the socks off of the photographer.

It was a joy being part of a wedding where the bride and groom have the bigger picture in mind.......their marriage. They were not about to let the rain get to them and the miracle Jesus was doing that day.

But, as for the wedding details.....they were stunning! The colors were gorgeous, the ambiance was beautiful, and the guests were sweet!

Here are some of my favorites. I have more that are ready to put on here, however my internet decided to turn into a tortoise of some sort today and I've been at it for 5 hours trying to get the rest on here. Because of time, Cate and Ryan saw each other before the wedding. It worked out so great because I was able to get some really great shots of her walking towards him in the background. It also made for a very sweet and intimate moment because they were all by themselves (except for a goofy photographer:) and they were able to take that moment all in!

Amazing Opp

Hi All!

My friend and fellow creative mentor, Shauna Maness, is hosting Crash Courses for those of you who are interested in learning more about taking cool pictures and your camera. She and her sweet hubby live in Germany, but she will be coming in this November & December to Texas!

This course is for people who love to take pictures. And for those of you who scrapbook, this would kick those scrapbooks up a notch with amazing photos of your most precious memories.

However, this is NOT for pros or those desiring to turn professional. Shauna is going to offer a seperate course for us peeps.

I spent a week with her early on when I was just getting started. I learned so much about how to use my camera and the technical side of things. It enabled me to fine tune my gift even more and bring to life the pictures I saw in my head.

She is a brilliant photographer and an amazing all-around gal who loves the Lord. I would highly recommend that you look into taking one of these courses. Your time would be well spent and you would walk away with tons of knowledge.

School Room Art

I am decorating Kaylyn's new room in retro schoolhouse stuff. I want it to be fun, creative, and colorful.

I do not like to buy artwork. I'm sort of a do-it-yourselfer. I figure why spend money on art when you can create something yourself. It is so much fun and A LOT cheaper. And you get exactly what you want.

So, while some friends and I roamed the streets of Warrenton, TX at the Antiques Fair this weekend, I found some things to take pictures of for Kaylyn's room.

I would have liked to have taken more pictures during the 5 times that I went, but this was the first time that I went without children.

In case you haven't heard of the Antiques Fair, it happens twice a year in two little towns in Texas called Round Top and Warrenton. You can read more about that HERE. I am really into anything old, worn out, beat up, full of character, has a history, or whatever. My husband and I found out we shared this common interest very early on in our marriage so it works out very well for us to enjoy this together!

Here are some of my favorites! I can't wait to see these printed and up in her room.

The M Family

I recently did a family photo shoot. As I have said in previous posts, family sessions tend to be the most challenging and the biggest sweat fest.....especially in the heat of the summer.

I am litterally in desperate need of a cold shower at the end of the always challenging never boring and incredibly fun family sessions!

But, it was totally worth it.

What is even cooler is that it was this little guys first birthday on the actual day. This family was a blast to hang out with. I had never met them before this session, but we didn't miss a beat and there was never an akward moment because they were so fun. And not to mention a overall gorgeous family.

Oh, and can I just say this?

I know that the colorizing of items in photographs is a bit dated in the photography world. The big league photographers would probably shun them. However, this particular family was wanting to replicate their daughters 1 year old pics that she took with a balloon in color and the rest black and white. And also, they specifically requested this. I don't do this too often anymore unless they do request it. But, I must say that the flower one looks pretty cute and subtle. I like it even if it isn't 'modern'.

When families are considering booking sessions with photographers, I always encourage them to view what an entire session from the photographer looks like. It gives them a better understanding what the overall style will be.

Also, on-location photography offers options and varieties that you can't find in a studio anywhere. The typical studio session is about 30 minutes. Which my child (pre-photography:) barely lasted 10 minutes which equivalated to 10 snaps and we were done! And because we shoot outside, I feel like the kids are much more comfortable and at ease so the session lasts longer which equals more pictures to walk away with. I think they had around 150 keepers from a 1 1/2 hour photo session.

I was able to capture so many different elements of this family just by going to a park nearby. Here are some of my favorites.

p.s. I would love to have cute little borders around my pics, but can't seem to get it together and design them. So, imagine these images with really tight borders around them:)

Their wedding took place in a church in Katy followed by the reception at a Country Club not too far away. I love golf course pictures! The green grass and perfect landscaping makes for great outdoor pictures.

Lauren is one of the sweetest people I have had the privledge of meeting. Her smile lights up her entire face. She smiles with her heart. It is truly a beautiful sight. Bart is cool guy as well and really tall! I happen to really like tall people since I am one myself.

These two love each other sweetly. It was a joy following them around on their wedding day.

Here are a few favorites from their wedding. I am trying to publish the rest HERE, but our internet is whack right now and needs to have a shot of ginseng or something. Gotta love CFT (country folk time). We have wireless since we live in a rural area and supposedly they are working on upgrading our channel. We'll see!

Backyard Boys

Recently, we had some friends over for some good food and fun......and a little tractor repair:). Thanks Wade!

The girls and the babies were sitting out in the grass off of the back porch visiting while the guys did their thing. Of course, I couldn't resist grabbing my camera and snapping a few of the cute little guys.

Meet Aaron. He is officially 1! This precious boy is so fun and always on the move. I love to see how he is going to react to new places because he is the kind of kiddo that likes to take everything in. His eyes bounce around the room from person to person watching and waiting. And he adores KK.

Meet Will. Aren't his brown eyes striking? This little one is such a sweet boy. He is so loving and is at his happiest when he is curled up into the arms of his mommy or daddy. See, I told you he was pretty sweet!

Well, there you have it.

I typically shoot mostly weddings, brides, and engagements. Sometimes the thought of family portraits and kiddos kind of intimidates me a bit. I don't know why. I guess it is because children are a little unpredictable. I know this because I'm a mother of two little girls- and unpredictable 3 year old and an unpredictable 5 month old.

But, I'm learning that it is in the unpredictable moments that you learn and grow the most. So bring it on. I'm totally up for it.

Adorable Ava

My niece, Ava, is absolutely adorable.

I never imagined that my sister would have a black headed child.

But, she did.

And Ava is beautiful.

She already has cute dimples! I've never seen a newborn so alert and awake all of the time. And yet she is content.

We took some pictures today at my house for Ava's birth announcements.

I don't know what we are going to do with all of these beautiful little girls running around.

This session was also shot in downtown Bryan. It seems to be the fav these days with all the right textures.

This couple was super fun to hang out with and so sweet. We instantly clicked and had the best time getting to know each other and taking some fun pictures in the process.

I was blessed to be able to take pictures of my family for the adoption process that they are going through. You can read about that amazing adventure HERE!

The day was covered in much prayer not only because they have 3 amazing and goofy boys, but also because these are the pictures that birth mothers will look at in order to select the family that they will be choosing to adopt their child.

We had a blast with our families walking around downtown Bryan. This location is one of my favorite places to shoot. It has so many cool textures and backgrounds. All of these pictures are some of my favorites. But, really, as I was going through gathering my favorites, I ended up with around 40! Which I'm aware is too many to post on the blog. But, it is my beautiful family so I'm a little partial. Aren't these boys adorable!!!
